With 83 youth and women in the Kroo Bay slum equipped with plastic waste collection and recycling training between August and November 2025, the Route 360 Solutions Initiative’s team, on 17th January 2026, kicked off the Building Climate Resilience in the Slums project in the Cockle Bay slum. The project Recycling Educator 2, Michael Williams, with support from the rest of the project team, engaged over 50 youth and women in Cockle Bay about the plastic pollution crisis in their community by building on lessons learned during the first engagement in Kroo Bay.
The participants and community leaders warmly welcomed the project team and were excited to learn about plastic pollution in their community and how the Route 360 Solutions Initiative, through the Building Climate Resilience in the Slums project, will support them in tackling the issue in their community in the long term.
In the next two months, the project team will be in Cockle Bay to engage youth and women in the community about plastic waste problems, sustainable waste management, and provide them with eco-recycling training. The project team was amazed by the determination of the youth and women to drive positive change in their community and is looking forward to supporting them in the best possible ways.
