On 1st and 15th November 2025, Route 360 Solutions Initiative, through the Building Climate Resilience in the Slums Project, trained 25 youth and women as recyclers in the Kroo Bay informal settlement. The first training, led by our Recycling Educators, Michael Williams and Santigie Koroma, equipped 10 youth and women, who, in turn, trained 15 other beneficiaries in the last training through the Training-the-Trainer model.
During the first training, books and pens were provided to the beneficiaries to record the steps involved in recycling plastic waste into eco-pavers. They were also given personal protective equipment for safety purposes. About 10.5 kilograms of single-use plastic waste that was initially gathered by the participants was recycled into paving blocks.
In the last training, the ten beneficiaries initially trained by our Recycling Educators equipped 15 other participants using lessons learned during their own training. Through this, the new set of beneficiaries also learned how to recycle single-use plastic waste into ecobricks for pavement projects.
By completing the training, each beneficiary will be awarded a certificate of completion, recognizing their commitment to reducing plastic pollution, flooding, and CO2 emissions in their community. The certificates will serve as a live achievement for the beneficiaries, providing them with a significant opportunity to gain relevance in the waste management and recycling sector.
