After successful engagements in the Regent community, the Re-afforesting Freetown City Project Asst. Leader Mohamed K. Conteh led the Route 360 Solutions Initiative team and volunteers to the Grafton community to continue the project’s engagement on afforestation, reforestation, and deforestation.
The event brings together over 50 people, including women, older people, and people with disabilities, from across the community. During the event, the participants learned about the environmental and human benefits of trees and afforestation, deforestation, and eco-friendly alternatives to reduce tree-logging.
After the engagement, the participants were allowed to ask relevant questions about the project and the topics discussed. The participants were very excited about the project and looked forward to the tree-planting commencing between June and July 2025.
Like Regent, we hope to plant 200 – 250 economic trees in the Graton community, which has been severely affected by deforestation due to rural-urban migration and the lack of clean and affordable cooking energy for community members. Beyond that, we are collaborating with Sierra EcoHeat to teach the community to produce eco-briquettes from sawdust and coconut shells.
We believe these planned measures would benefit the community and its inhabitants while reducing the constant cutting down of trees. We are elated to be supporting the Gratfon community through the Re-afforesting Freetown City project.
